Conservative Party Manifesto 2017, p.71
And we will continue our £2.5 billion flood defence programme that will put in place protection for 300,000 existing homes by 2021.
The flood and coastal erosion risk management investment programme 2015 to 2021, as indicated in the title, came into force in 2015, as the 12 Regional Flood and Coastal Committees (RFCCs) agreed with the Environment Agency on the investments and preventive measures to take concerning flood defence.
This investment programme was republished in March 2018, as the current government endeavours to keep this policy going. £2.6 billion is being spent in total until 2021, in the hope of protecting 300,000 homes by this date.
The project, composed of 1,500 schemes across the country, is therefore ‘in progress’. But the policy promise is to “continue” the programme, so for our purposes we can mark this one as ‘done’.
